It’s our last weekend in the city before we head off to Sri Lanka and yes, we still put up our Christmas tree. I’m all about getting in the festive spirit and have been doing a fair bit of shopping as well. Obviously we’ve been visiting every toy store in the city hunting down those items on Santa’s list because we only return on Christmas eve and won’t have any time to shop then. This is the first year I heard about the collaboration between the Starlight Foundation and Toys “R” US and I was pleasantly surprised to learn that they have partnered for over 18 years and have raised over 16 million dollars for Starlight!

This year’s bear was inspired by Noah, a courageous young boy who was diagnosed with Pompe disease back in 2011 at the age of two. Pompe disease is a rare genetic disease that affects muscle growth, and in Noah’s case, it means an enlarged heart. Flash encompasses Noah’s favourite colour orange, while the rainbow tie reflects his happy disposition despite the many challenges of having a serious illness. The bow tie also represents Noah’s love for looking dapper wherever he goes. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of Flash will be donated to Starlight to continue to help brighten the lives of seriously ill kids, like Noah through in and out-of-hospital programs.
